The Ageing Eye

The aging population presents optometry with a range of new opportunities and challenges. This lecture will provide an overview of the changes in the anatomy and physiology of the eye and visual pathway that occur with age and the impact of these changes on various aspect of visual function will be discussed. Current demographic trends will be described and the impact of an aging population on optometric practice will be discussed.

David Thomson is a Professor of Optometry and Visual Science at City University. His principal research interest is the development of computer programs for visual assessment and screening. These are now widely used in optometric practice, hospitals and schools in the UK and overseas and have won a number or awards. Professor Thomson was awarded an inaugural Teaching Fellowship by City University and was nominated for a National Teaching Fellowship in 2002.

Successful completion of the multiple choice test is worth 2 CET points. This CET is approved for optometrists and dispensing opticians.
